Meet Olu & Jenn! This season's "Seven Wonders" contestants on Top Stitchers! Bios, prompts, and links to their sewing entries below!
Hello Top Stitchers fans! I'm Jenn and I design patterns under the label Jennuine Design and blog at A Jennuine Life. I recently moved from Michigan to New Jersey - so yes, I have the NYC fashion district close at hand! I've been sewing since I was a little girl, but began focusing in earnest and learning to draft and grade patterns when my first daughter was born 6 years ago. My ideal evening is sewing or drafting while listening to a Modern Sewciety podcast. My dogs may disagree as I now share space with them and they moan and groan if I keep them up too late sewing!
I signed up for Top Stitchers because I really love the creative push of a good challenge. I am most active on Instagram @jennuinedesign, but fans can also find me on Facebook on my page Jennuine Design or my pattern group Jennuine Design Pattern Group.
Hi, I'm Olu, I love in London, England, my little blog spance is Needle and Ted. I have been sewing regularly for about a year and a half, but I still haven't got my own sewing machine. I used to use my mums but that recently broke, so now I use my sisters but she wants it back.
I sew for my 2 girls mostly. Sometimes my nephew and occasionally myself. I would like to sew more for myself but alas my girls needs are greater.
I signed up for Top Stitchers because: I hope to push myself creatively and challenge my sewing prowess. And to fulfill my goal of winning a sewing challenge of any sort one day, because I'm competitive like that ;-)
Olu and Jenn are my "Pioneer" contestants:
To you, sewing is a skill you never stop learning. New gadgets. New sewing techniques. New fabric types. These advanced sewing challenges inspire you, and you have the unique skillset to conquer them: a creative mind with incredible attention to detail, and the confidence and optimism to persevere.Your objective is to develop a new sewing technique or skill, as instructed in your prompt, and utilize it in your sewing project.
And they're facing off with the following prompt:
The Seven Wonders of the World is a list of structures that exemplify ancient man's greatest feats of engineering and imagination. Let these structures, or any of the "wonders" of more recent lists, inspire your sewing project.
BUT. As a pioneer contestant, your entry must involve one of the "wonders" of the sewing world. Sewing inventions that exemplify man's feats in engineering and imagination include, but are not limited to: synthetic dyes, synthetic fibers, zippers, elastic, velcro, and sewing gadgets like the ruffle foot.
Challenge yourself! Select a "wonder" you have little or no experience with.
